USB, Fire Wire and Digital Cables

I will never forget the first time I tested our first prototype of Konstantine Fire Wire cable. We had been working a couple of months with our USB cables, an area that was new to me and very enjoyable because there were substantial changes in sound quality with different cable constructions, even though it theoretically should not make any difference what type of cable I used.

I had for years been using Fire Wire cables in my dCS system and curiosity grew more and more about what it could mean with a Fire Wire cable that was designed after the experience we had with the USB cables. Unlike when we tested the USB cables which we only could test with  relatively cheap dacs compared to my dCS system.

So I must admit, I was little nervous about how everything would work. When I started the disc, it took less than five seconds to hear the difference it was to the sound. Swung from nervousness to the relief and joy, but then I felt a slight anger towards myself. Here I had sifted mosquitoes and been swallowing elephants. In so many years I had been doing work to improve the sound in my system and now I found that the weakest link had been the Fire Wire cable and I had not even given a thought until now.
